I'm about ready to order some new wheels and tires from Tirerack. How good a job do they do balancing their set-ups? Are the weights mounted on the inside of the wheels? Also, heard something about a newer procedure where the wheel is checked for balance and then the tire is checked separately. The tire is then mounted so as to achieve a better balance. Something like the high spot on the wheel is aligned with the low spot on the tire to "balance" things out before the final balance is done. I think it is call "integrated balancing". Anyone know anything about this? Thanks guys.

available. Don't worry about it...but if you're curious, call them and ask them what they use, and how the machine works. Eddie frequents the wheel and tire forum and works for the tire rack. He might be able to give you more info on their procedures.

We have a set of Blizzaks-on-steel-wheels that we bought back in '96 that have remained well balanced, and we have a set of Michelin Pilot Sports on 18" SSR Integrals that have remained well balanced in the 18 months I have driven them.
The steel wheels have traditional weights applied as needed (inside and outside) and the Integrals have tape weights applied to the inside rim part of the wheel behind the spokes.
There are not a lot of weights in either case, for what that is worth. Since I am happy with the results I dont care how they figure out where to put them.
