Make sure you loosen the fill plug before draining the oil. These plugs can get stuck with age.

Default clean the allen hole out real well, smack the plug with a small hammer first

put the allen driver into it and give it a tap to seat it .Attach the ratchet or breaker bar and loosen the plug. After you get that loose drain the diff and refill,it takes less than 2 qts. Put teflon pipe sealant on the fill plug before you replace it ,so it'll come out easier next time. If the allen starts to round out ,stop and get a chisel and hammer to get the plug out. Drive the chisel edge into the 3 o'clock side of the fill plug and hammer the chisel to drive thye plug counter-clockwise. Hope it doesn't get to that point.

Default Twice , work in a shop in parts but sometimes wrench on friends cars

Its usually brakes, tunes and suspension for me though on side work. So yes its a case of BTDT. Also don't rest the non-hammer hand anywhere that the hammer can bounce and smack a knuckle....just saying...
Glad it was just my small ball-peen hammer or I could have broke something.
