wider = proportionately more overall tread or slick surface area. If as a tire gets wider the contact patch changes shape more so than actual surface area, then the relationship between tire surface area and contact patch surface area should yield more surface exposed to being cooled. Also wouldn't wider tire with a shorter but wider contact patch expose each unit of it's circumference to less time in contact with the ground per given rotation? This could alter the wear rate of the tire... and exposing the tire to the ground for less time means that the tire can use that same surface area for longer per rotation to radiate heat rather than accumulate heat. On track when tires get greasy one must slow down... if running a wider tire does not afford a higher limit of lateral G it could afford extended duration of the same lateral G.
Maybe?

the 50 and the 55 is a % of the 225 and the 250 respectively. and the 16 is just your rim size.
its going to look the same from the side as it does now. just with a wider tire looking at them from front or back.
