Default track time.... some questions from people w/ actual experience...

i have been building a '90 mazda rx-7 into an SCCA ITS car, but have since decided to sell it and put the audi on the track. what i want to know is if anyone has ever had an accident on the track and what was done thru the insurance co., if anything. i know the consequences of being on the track, so no lectures, please. but i know some track events are considered driver training and can that be claimed on your insurance? after spending time autocrossing and picking up a few regional championships, i'm ready to make a change.

thanks for your help,

mike

Default If timing devices are used, you're screwed. If it's a "Driver safety school" or sum'n like that....

then you're covered.

Default don't assume anything. Call your agent and make sure.

Mine (state farm) is reluctant to cover any type of track event, timed or otherwise, but admitted that it probably would be covered at a "drivers school" Probably was good enough for me.

Default Varies from underwriter to underwriter. My insurance policy explicitly prohibits racing and...

...speed events. Chances are SCCA events (Solo I and II) are considered "racing" so you probably won't be covered.

Default cool. thanks for all the replies. the events are not races...

they are, in fact, driver's schools. no timing devices. just track time w/ an instructor (until you get signed off). no timing, no racing, no passing except on the 2 straights. looks like the sparco seat is going in the audi =)

thanks again,

mike
