I am having an issue with what i assume to be my tranny, yet again... It is a rough sort of rubbing/scraping noise that occurs in 1st-3rd gear, the frequency of which rises with RPMs. When the car is at a standstill, i can hear the rattle, when i push in the clutch, it takes a few seconds for the sound to go away completely. I think this is probably the tranny taking a few seconds to come to rest completely, am i correct? If so, should i just grab a new tranny or try to rebuild this one?

Can you tell where the sound is coming from?

Do you have a smell under the hood consistent with that?
