My buddy has a 2k A4 1.8t 5spd. It seems that shifting between 3rd and 4th is realy rough and they grind every time. I assume the syncros might be shot.. Does anyone have any idea how much replacing all fo them would cost? Upgrade options while all ripped apart? thanks

Regardless of whether he has or hasn't, it might be a good idea to try to adjust the shifter to see if you can get a smoother engagement. The process is the same as required when installing a new shifter. Loosen the lower 6mm bolt that connects the shifter to the tranny linkage (down in the trans tunnel), set the shifter straight up and down, then tilt it back a few degrees, and to the right a few degrees. Try to told it there while you tighten the 6mm bolt.

mine just died 1.5 weeks ago and we found a <10,000 mile 2.8 tranny for like $1800... installed that with a few other things and I got it back monday night...
overall, the 2.8 gearing is MUCH nicer, I am very happy with it... the expressway is nicer...
