Hey, I have never changed trans fluid before and was hoping for some pointers. Thanks.

There are DIY articles floating around.
The fluid is about 20 bucks a quart and I think it takes about 7-8.

Use only oem fluid or zf approved fluids.

Don't flush just filter and gasket and fluid change.

Use $20/liter OE fluid if you'll feel better about it. A completely empty trans will use 9 liters, for a fluid change I usually fill a little over six quarts, if the pan has been off and the trans allowed to drip overnight.

These fluid/filter changes run me about $60 for Valvoline Maxlife ATF and a filter/gasket set. You'll need a couple of large hex drivers, some Torx bits, and equipment to get the fluid up into the transmission. I posted sometime back a few pictures of the very cheap setup that I use, which is basically a 7' hose, a funnel, and a ladder. You should also have VAG-COM diagnostics available to be sure the ATF temperature is OK when the filling is done.
