Transmission Trouble

I was going to drive my car to class today and started the car. Everything was fine until I tried putting into reverse. It took two hands to move the shifter into gear and was slow to move but nonetheless moved. It was then impossible to put the car into first gear. I tried second and it worked fine, but since I value my life I parked the car and walked to class instead. Interestingly enough, when I parked the car again and turned the ignition off, the shifter moved seamlessly through the gears. Bad syncros? Ideas?

IE, a bad clutch will disengage the input shaft from the spinning flywheel. He has a bad slave or master, or it was just really friggen cold, or his shifter is not adjusted correctly.
I am aiming for the shifter as he could put it in second gear.
