I drove my A4 to Las Vegas from PHX over the weekend. The 310 mile trip was great. I
AVG at least 95 most of the way. My CB antenna ( Wilson 1000 Mag mount) stopped me from going much past 120 mph. I think it will hold but I don't want it to fly off and take a panel out or a piece of glass
On the way back I ran full throttle for at least 10 miles up the grade. With three people and luggage it would still pull the grade at 100 or so. That's very amazing. The hill is steep. One Mazda 626(the new one) and one BMW 5 series tried to pace me up the hill. Within one mile it was over and they fell back in the mirror
The A4 is right in the meat of its power band at those speeds. It just simply kept pulling and pulling up the hill.... I finally backed off when I saw 260!! on my Oil temp!!! The water temp stayed in check at half way. It fell to 250 pretty fast. I then coasted at 80 or so down the other side at the temp finally fell to 240. I know that little turbo was HOT!!!(12psi of boost) I did not harm anything. I ran it at 85 on the cruise control the rest of the way back with out incident with 230 on the temp gauge. This A4 has once again proven to be an incredible car. It was in it's element on the old two lane highways to Vegas.. I had as much fun driving there and back as I did in Vegas. How many other people can say that about there cars? If you cant you need to buy an Audi.....
Take care!
