Default Is the Triptronic worth it?

My wife wants(I pushed her into it ) to get a 1.8t Q, but she wants an auto. I will be driving it sometimes and I don't care for automatics so I figure I would get the auto/triptronic gearbox.

So...

1. Is it worth the extra money?

2. Does it work like it suppose to?

3. Are there any know problems with them?

4. Is there any difference in the auto and auto/triptronic tansmission like gear ratios, strength, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Default tip is standard Auto

there isnt an automatic and a tiptronic option they are the same
the base package has the tip shifter
the sports package has the base shifter, and control buttons on the steering wheel

Default If you have to get an automatic...it will be a Tiptronic.

'97 is the only year you can get a 1.8T with a regular automatic. All years since the auto is a tip.

Go with the 5 speed. A few members here regret getting the tip. Plus it will get old after a while and you most likely won't use it all that often.

Default Of course it works

The main disadvantage is that clueless users think that it is really complicated.

Tiptronic gives the ability to shift up/down when you think it is necessary.

To me that is a huge plus. To others, it is simply complicated.

Get a manual if you can. Most Tip owners on the Fourm say they wish they'd gone w/ a stick.

Default S.O. 101 FAQ needs vs wants

Ok I have explained this to many people but will touch upon it lightly here:

Some people (mainly male) have not yet figured out the female mind. I have had to explain to many the rules for a happy future.

Needs vs Wants

Need=necessity
Want=desire

A woman's needs outweighs a man's wants

Example: "I need you to come with me shopping. I want to go to the watch racing with my friends"

This situation can lead to a large argument, fight, and pain. If you don't see that her need outweighs your want. Now you may not view her situation as an actual need (e.g. surgery, etc) But in her mind it is a need.

So if you hear the words "I need" realize that you lose.

This is the adbridged version of the full explanation. There is a 200, 300, and 400 level course on this, or come to my lecture series =)

Default I love my Tip. It saves my sanity in traffic, plus the shifters on the

steering wheel allow me to keep both hands on the wheel while doing canyon runs!!!!!
