Is the Triptronic worth it?

Well, I guess I am not in the "most" category that boba speaks of. I don't want to drive a manual and have to constantly shift. Since I do not have Quattro, I find the car quite responsive. The only complaint specific to having the Tip is that it in combination with Quattro makes the car slow to respond. For the most part, I don't use the Tip part, I just leave it in Automatic. When I feel like racing someone or I need to make some quick lane changes (all done within the limits of the law), I switch to the Tip. The Automatic is very smooth.
I would say that if you don't mind driving a stick, you might be happier in the long run with a stick. If you prefer to not deal with the hassle of a stick, the Tip is a great Automatic Transmission.

1) He works in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh (traffic and construction central). I wouldn't want a stick if I was in stop & go traffic for 45 minutes every day;
2) He's 6'4", 275lbs, and he wears a size 18 shoe. The guy is NFL Defensive Lineman-size. He has yet to sit in a vehicle in which he can actually move his legs to shift without smacking them under the dashboard. Driving a stick is literally an uncomfortable experience.
BTW, he enjoys it. Despite what all of the haters will tell you, it's a nice compromise between function and convenience. I say go for it.
