just last week after i had filled up, my car wouldn't start. it coughed and tried to catch, but it wouldn't start on it's own. i had to give it a little gas and then after it started it idled roughly and would die.

after a few attempts, the car finally started normally and idled normally.

since then, i've had to fill up 2 more times and each time, i've had to "burp" my car. any clues as to what's going on?

the check engine light is on, and i'm going to get it vag'ed tomorrow, but some hints would be nice.

Try running the gas tank as empty as possible, you may have gotten a bad batch & there's water in your tank.

Maybe take out your fuel pump, check the screen filter. Or change your fuel filter. Also, check your fuel pressure.

Coolant temp sensor? Knowing the DTC's would be helpful.

your charcoal canister may be getting full of gas when the tank is full
this is due to a rollover valve in the filler neck
it lets gas flow to the canister and when you start the car it get sucked by the engine
there is a valve by the air filter that suppose to stay close until rpm reaches 1500 it may be stuck open
check what your dtc says
