i know that the engine warranty is void once you put a chip in, but does anyone know when the engine warranty expires normally?

...when you install a chip. The manufacturer still has to prove that the chip caused the malfunction. Now this isn't to say that you might not get hassled at your dealer if they find out your chipped, but that varies greatly from dealer to dealer.
