i was planning to install the turbo boost gauge from AWE tuning soon..
after emailing them about it, they sent a letter back saying they wouldn't "endorse" it because of the side air bags that comes with 2001 a4 on the pillar of the car..
has anyone ever has their turbo boost gauge installed on the side pillar on their 2001 a4?
would it be something you wouldn't recommend to be put on your car?
i don't like the ones that go on your vent because it's corny..
maybe i should just get a turbo timer that comes with the boost gauge.. the ones that go on the cupholder of your dashboard... any thought?

Some others indicate they think it can be installed so it doesnt interfere with that air bag. I am more cautious when it comes to things like that. I dont want a failing bag or a projectile as a result of something like this.
So I ended up fabricating a display for the gauge package Ed P. put together last fall, that fit in the V1 remote I already have sitting on top of the steering column. If that didnt happen, I would have probably gone the route you mention with a turbotimer w/boost gauge.

I'm actually considering getting this. I don't want a guage pod no matter how safe they may say it is. It will just bother me to much knowing an air back could be deployed from behidn there if dsomeone bumps me at 10mph.
But, I'm going to make my own digital boost guage first I believe, and if that fails, just go for that headsup display thing.

j/k, i just installed mine on the A-pillar. it shouldn't interfere with the airbag as long as it's a single pod. some guy on the S4 forum posted pics of his car with the airbags deployed and the bottom part of the pillar looked perfectly fine.

a digital boost gauge that shows a boost graph?
that would probably be useful in debugging boost leaks.
I swear I saw an HKS thing like that once...
any EE people wanna design the circuit?

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/2930/v1_remote_install_1.jpg"></center><p>I dont have one with me after I added the LEDs. I think I took a couple though. I will look at home later.
Basically the display consists of 10 FEDs that line the rear top of the display's case. They stick up thru the case top enough to show their round tops. The kit Ed put together included a display board but it was a little too wide for the V1 remote so I made another from perf board. Most of the Ed P. kits ended up with displays installed directly into the steering column cover where my remote is sitting.
Unless you can build stuff like the digital boost gauge yourself, knowing all this wont help you much. Ed did a few - presold - in order to spread out the cost of the PCB production but that was it.
