What are the downsides of installing chips to increase HP? Shorter enigne life?

I mean, if there weren't any downsides, wouldn't Audi be installing them on all cars directly at the factory?

Since I'm relatively new to this chip business, where do you buy them? Can an Audi dealer install it for me? Does it void the warranty?
