Default Turbo question..new turbo owner and not real smart....

I just bought a 2000 A4 1.8T. I've never driven a turbo engine before. At what point, RMP, does the turbo kick in? Is it something that you can feel, like a sudden power increase?

Thanks, like I said...new and dumb!

Default 1700-1800 rpms. in a tip car you will feel the surge of power

since your car barely moves before the turbo spools up. in a stick you will still feel the turbo, moreso if you get a chip.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm</a
