Turbo Timers and 2001 A4's
Greetings,
Try to bear with me here folks, I had my tonsils removed yesterday, and the pain killers are puttin a hurtin on my thought processes!
I've heard much talk of turbo timers on this board and much of the need for a cool down period. When I picked up my 2001 Avant from the dealer a few weeks back, he told me, and I paraphrase here: "Unlike previous iterations of the 1.8t, the 2001 will circulate coolant through the turbo after you shut the car off, so if you hear whirring/gurgling noises from the front of the car after shutdown, dont worry, it's normal."
Day before yesterday, I was out pushing the car pretty hard, and when I shut it off, I heard sounds as he described coming from the front of the car (radiator area, I didnt lift the hood). My 2001 owners manual discusses the need for a cooling off period after spirited driving, but I'm thinking that maybe the manual was printed before the change was added to the car.
Any thoughts/supporting facts??

My understanding though is that coolant doesn't flow through the turbo but oil does....
and that's the main concern of hot shutdown where the oil cokes onto the bearings. Hence, the need of a turbo timer.<p>Darryl
