Turbo upgrade (K04, ...)

Hey,
I recently learned that my turbo wasn't working (the usual wastegate failure) and it has to be replaced. So I immediately thought about going for a larger turbo. I'm not really familiar with turbo upgrades and what is really involved.
Who did the upgrade? How much did it cost in total? What parts did you change excluding the turbo? Did you have to go for FMIC, then change the front bumper to accomodate it? Change the exhaust and exhaust manifold? What about the intake? The chip?
And finally, what are the options available, at what cost and what performance? I know there is the K04, pes does one too, but who else do turbo upgrades?

unless:
1. you are going to get your tranny upgraded
2. you are going to use a boost controller to keep your boost levels down.
3. you have money to spend on another tiptronic tranny which is not cheap by far.

they can detune the pes t28 kit for ur auto, but whats the use...just get the k04.
the k04 kit bolts right on, looks stock, and costs less then any other kit. itll also give u a nice kick over the stock k03.

you should just get the K04 kit. Awe-tuning sells the kit, along with neuspeed and MTM. Anything beyond the K04 and your tip transmission can't handle it (ie. APR Stage III, PES T28 kit, ATP t3/t4).

I decided on the KO4 kit from AWE-Tuning.com Several months ago, I was asking the same question and a few peole recommended AWE to me. Now, I have not purchased the kit as of yet, but for my 01 A4 1.8T quattro, sport pkg., I would be increasing HP by 65 and tourque by 99. The kit includes the KO4 Turbo, GIAC chip, 5.0 bar Bosch FPR, gaskets and plugs for $1799, (the kit for your car is $1699). Not a bad price per HP at about $28. Initially I considered the Neuspeed KO4 kit, but it was more expensive. As for the exhaust manifold, Supreme Power Parts ports stock manifolds by 3/8", and only costs $375 with exchange.
I would suggest reading the KO4 tech article by Don, lots of good info. I'm new to the "mod" game, and I have received some excellent advice/opinions from the people here on AW who have pointed me in the right direction, my only problem is I now want more mods, and am running out of excuses with my wife! ; )
