I drive an A4 99.5 1.8TQMS and always wondered what these lights are meant for. They are to small to really light the interior and I only recognize them when they shine on my hand when I play with the sunroof.

Anyone an idea?

They're there to give off "ambient" light to the area around the radio/climate control/ashtray area. The lights give off a kinda black light effect, i like it alot. Hmmmmmmmmmm, let me think if i still have some of my old posters from the 60's. Yeah, i'm 48.

You will notice it only when you are driving in a dark, dark night without any street lights. These spot lights allow you to see your hand operating the AC and radio controls, and maybe find the small odds and ends lying around. They are red as not to impair your night vision.

Caution: back seat passengers now can see where your hand is going =)
