Default Unable to access OBD II diagnostics

Hello,
I own a 2000.5 A4, and couldn't find any coverage of this in the archives, which seem to deal with error codes themselves; at the smog check station this morning, the tech reported that the OBD II diagnostics on my car was inaccessible, with the equipment plugged in, as well as with his handheld scanner. We tried switching the fuses in the box next to the steering wheel, but to no effect.

This seems rather odd, since it's not an error code as such, but the OBD itself being inaccessible using test equipment. The car itself runs fine, and I see nothing untoward in its operation. I wonder if anyone here has encountered something of the sort, and would advise what to do.

Thanks!

Ah, I have an issue with my ABS sensor too - I have the 'three beeps' + ABS light and flashing brake light problem that presents itself intermittently. I guess that's why OBD access fails ?

It's something I'd like to try, but just how hard is it to disconnect the ABS module ? Did you follow the steps outlined in the tech article, including taking the wheel off etc ?

thanks!
