Default Matt, you said the sound goes away when you turn RIGHT.. That would imply the RIGHT bearing...

not the left. It is possible for a bearing to go bad, if your hub or the bearing housing is bad, or if it was installed incorrectly. I have had one go bad immediately. What happened was the tech had it go a little crooked on him when he was pressing it in, which ruined the bearing. Another time, I had one make a slight hum, and they wrote it off as a bad bearign and warranteed it. (this is why I pay people to change bearings, instead of doing it myself.)

Default I've been thinking the same thing all day......

I have brought these people, through myself and others, literally thousands of dollars in business this year alone. I will be discussing all of the points that you have made, especially the one about a crooked install, and the hub. I actually told them about the right turn, and the hub possibly being damaged, etc. They seem certain its that bearing.

In any case, I don't see it right to pay for a bearing that expired in 18,000 miles, and will be bringing this up with them with the understanding that I can take my business elsewhere, based on my satisfaction, as well as the fact that I do not work in that area anymore, and the convenience is no longer an issue.

Actually gonna call now and check on the progress.....

Default I hear ya!! Wheel bearings should last a lot longer than 18k...

Generally I have had more issue with REAR bearings on quattros than fronts, on a FWD, you should be golden.

Default well I just got back from the mechanic

Not only did they not cut any slack, but they charged me $318 instead of $264, like they did TWICE before. The minute I walked in the guy was defensive, which tells me he knows he F*cked me. Maybe I'm wrong, but I am going to have words with the guy that I usually deal with, as the guy today was someone different.

"Thats what it came up to this time" does NOT explain to me a $50 increase in labor. Thats not an answer, esp. with the mechanic right there, saying nothing.

I must have F*ck me written somewhere in the serial number of the car.
