Default if she has a different set of keys ask her to try those, I think it the immobilizer

a feature that 01 a4's didn't have but 01 (mkIV) jetta's did.

Default I don't think it's the immob... it wouldn't have started the first time...

I had her look at the battery... she says it has german.. so I'm thinking it's probably the battery dead.... It's about time.

Default def. could be the battery

just fyi the immobilizer in my buddies 2000 jetta allows you to turn the car on then it will shut down w/ in 3 seconds if you use a key that is not programed to the immobilizer. for the sake of trying have her grab a second set of keys to try it out.

I don't know if the battery would have allowed it to turn on then shut off. the clicking is def. a battery sign. I had a problem w/ my jeep's w/ the idle air control valve when its freezing cold out that they will turn over then stall out if you don't gas it immediatly

Default She doesn't have a spare on her... but I seriously doubt it's immob.

Since it won't crank now.

Default Wow, thanks for your unhelpful advice. How unusual of you!

Tell me what a factory manual will do to solve this problem? From the symptoms I've described, it seems people here aren't sure how to solve this.

Since you obviously have this, please tell me good sir.. what is the solution to the problem? Oh, you're not sure either? Then make yourself useful and hit that 'log out' button.
