I got my 2001 1.8t about a month ago and about a week ago the malfunction indicator light came on. The dealer gave me a 3 month/3000miles engine/trans warranty. So I took the car to him he plugged it in to the computer and I forget exactly what the computer said but It was something like "fuel too lean" Anyways he then asks me what kind of gas I used and I said premium. He said that a4's like regular gas and that probably was why. But in the manual it says use premium. So he turned off the MIL and told me to start using regular gas and it'd fix the problem. Is he just trying to get out of having to spend money on it? Because it sure seems that way. And does anyone know if the problem is serious/expensive?

show the guy at the dealer the inside of the gas flap where it says premium only, then punch him in the face and make him fix whats making the CEL come on, because it WILL come back on.
Ok maybe dont punch him in the face, I just read your Name...lol, sorry.
when it comes back on, have the codes pulled somewhere else, write them down then ask us what it means, but as I said, too lean is prob unmetered air getting in somewhere.

is there someone local that can check for the code(s) when they come back before your warranty is up?
I'd probably take that car to an indy or Audi dealer to have a full inspection done and then take the repair(s) estimiate back to him to have fixed on his dime. and make him use the dealer, not "his favorite place".

turns into a boost leak.
Anyway, someone show him where the vac line is on the intake manifold that runs to the BPV. It's probably broken and causing the lean code. 50 cents in hose, and 20 minutes to replace.
And yeah...that dealer is full of ****. This has nothing to do with the grade of fuel. Don't let them clear the codes until they have actually fixed the problem. Clearing the codes without fixing the problem is akin to sweeping a live rat under the rug...it will come back out and find it's way into your bed.

The dealer is about 45 minutes away...is it a problem to keep driving with it for a little bit or will it cause more damage?...sounds expensive too fix..
