Default Used a Pela 6000 oil extractor last night...worked like a champ

Decent product, worked as advertised - less than $40.
Took a bit longer than I had expected (I thought it would take a few minutes - took @ under 10 minutes).

Shove the tube down the dipstick hole, pump 10-20 times, then wait @10 minutes - refill - done.

There will always be debate on both sides (Does it suck out as much oil as the traditional method, will particles be left behind in the bottom).
But these type of products work very well for a quick painless way to change your oil.

Default Just wanted to know...

Why would you use this method of changing the oil in a car? You still need to get under the car to change the oil filter right? I'm not trying to be a @ss just want to know...

Default It's common practice not to change the filter everytime. On 1.8t, it can be reached from above.

It's right under the coolant tank. I've done OC this way many times, mostly on other people's cars. My Honda specs OC at 5k and filter change at 10k.

Default not necessarily

There have been posts on how to change your filter from the top...unscrew the coolant reservoir and detach the level sensor for access.

"The filter is located under the intake manifold on the back side of the engine. The filter can be reached from above if the coolant expansion tank is moved out of the way. Remove the 3 screws holding the tank and lift the tank toward the front of the engine, taking care not to stretch the coolant hoses too much. The coolant level sensor is located on the underside of the tank. It must be detached before the tank can be moved completely out of the way."

Default I've always heard the opposite for 1.8Ts

OC's at 10k (assuming you're using synthetic), but filter changes every 5K. Is this not wise?

Default oh okay...

I guess it's esier that way for the 1.8T's I have a 2.8 which have the filter up front. I just drive the car up on ramps and takes about 15 munutes froms start to finish. Just wanted to know that's all thanks...

Default I always get oil drip when I unscrew the filter and it's mounted on an angle

It's not like Niagara Falls, but I'm **** about any oil getting on even the belly pan.
