Default UUC short shifter install......

I need some help. I installed the shifter and am having trouble engaging reverse. It's not that the linkage arm is not traveling far enough forward, it's that I really have to slam the shifter to the right before I can move the shifter back into reverse. I think it may be that I installed the shifter linkage bolt with the bolt on the left side instead of the right side and it may be hitting something preventing it from moving far enough.

Also, there is quite a bit of play in the shifter vertically up and down. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

Default That's not it...

It's the linkage connection... a millimeter can make all the difference! Trial and error, but it sounds like you have to move the part going to the transmission clockwise relative to the shift lever.

I had this exact problem and it was a matter of trying 3 or 4 positions. Same with the upper positioning bolt.

Default Rob, another question about left/right alignment...

I installed mine quite some time ago. The throws seem fine, and all gears engage okay. It does seem as if the shifter is aligned too far to the right. If I put the car in nuetral and look at the shifter, it doesn't appear completely vertical...it lean toward the right a bit.

Is there an adjustment for this, or am I just crazy? I don't recall any adjustment for side to side positioning, just up and down. From your previous post, it sounds like the same thing...so what you are trying to say is that there is some side to side play when tightening down the transmission linkage bolt (not sure what the tech term here is).
TIA
