v6 guys - especially 12v's u guys ever tried adding-
a couple of electric air pupms to your intake? by friend has two pumps from hardware stores that pump up inflatable boats and air beds and weird and ghetto as it may sound he said his car dyno'd 20.5 hp more?!?! How far fetched is this and you think its worth the trouble and money for me to do it and find out? He did it on his 98 passat and hooked them up to a manual switch in the **** pit, he said it only works (pulls) good up to 4500 rpm though.

Not far fetched at all, b/c the OEM Audi air intake inhibits airflow . . .
to the air filter box. It's designed to prevent rain, snow, and the like from reaching the air filter. However, this also obstructs the free flow of cool, fresh air.
If you do enough searches, you will find that a great many A4 owners have dealt with the restrictive air flow issue in one way or another. A majority opt for the aftermarket cone filter mod. A minority opt for increasing the air to the air box by modifying the air box or OEM air intake pipe/inlet to the air box.
I opted for keeping the air box and modifying the inlet, because the panel filter has more than enough square inches to handle our 200+ hp engines. BMW uses exactly the same panel filter for its 4.0 liter V-8 engines in the 740 and 540 vehicles which output almost 300 hp.

hmm interesting - i was thinking of changing to cone and..
In addition to placing a cone intake with heatshielding i was thinking of addinge bigger inlet's and piping from the bottom too (cold air) and running the pipes to lead to the cone in addition to this adding two electric air blowers leading directly to the cone filter throttle area firing to the rear of the car. The principal should work however doesnt the air pressure going into the car at higher speeds exceed the pressure from the blowers? Even if you did add two blowers?(since they are only electric and can only push so much)

Do you have a picture? The basic idea is simple. At sea level, we live at 14.5 psi of air
pressure (or is it 14.7). Anyway N/A engines are made to utilize earth pressure as the cylinder expands in volume - pistons going down - and creates a lower pressure differential with outside world.
Anything reducing it is a restriction i.e., there is effectively less than 1 atm pressure at the inlet valves to help air gush in to equalize the cylinder pressure with outside pressure and fill in the volume.
Anything adding to the pressure at the inlet valves will mean the cylinder volume will be filled and more.
Doubling the pressure basically doubles the volume of air filling the cylinder, theoretically doubles the power. Well, it's not that simple because of many factors, but that's the idea.
Anything to reduce restriction will add horsepower.

The problem with adding pressure is creating the pressure in the first place. Most fans cannot retain pressure - they will leak. Hence it's hard to get a fan create anything higher than 1psi. Note 1psi is about 8% hp improvement among other things.
So, I need to see a picture of that gadget. Chances are, if it can inflate and pressurize a raft, it can create pressure and hold it at a certain level, for a required CFM. If that CFM is lower than what the engine needs during high rpm flow requirements, it becomes a restriction. Ok, maybe it's getting complicated now
Fuel for very low level boost is usually compensated by most cars - unless you decide to run the car at 5000 ft below sea level where there is a natural boost already

interesting analysis audi boy..
what do you have runing under your hood? I was thinking kind of about that maintaining pressure thing as well and was thinking for sure one may have problems dealing with that but two would im sure give it a sufficient boost. Tie up these small blowers to blow right into the cone filter firing backwords as i said and dont see why it wouldnt work - if three would fit then hey im all about doing all three in there and taking my airbox out for sure. Also getting a longer cone, does that help or make it worse or what for our engines? What is the difference with ram air intake?

My oil pan is out, basically, trying to get an adequate drainage without spending buckoo
bucks on using an S4 one. I should have it running this weekend or next. I'm still looking for a side mount intercooler that is long and narrow enough. Stock A4/S4 too small and fat. I'm looking for the older gen 5cyl turbo ones.
