Is there any performance advantage to getting the Ross-tech VAG-COM cable as opposed to a generic one that costs half as much?

If you bought everything from them, and you experience a problem, they'll walk you through it (as they did with me recently). If you read their website, you'll find that if you only got the software from them, you'll only get software support. You're on your own with the cable...and apparently some cables will work, while others will not work with vag.com. They try to detail this on their website.

Their support is the best. I bought the cable and software 2 years ago. I got a new laptop last year and the older cable did not work with the crapy serial port on the new laptop. After a quick phone call he sent me the upgraded cable at no cost to me.
