Not to appear stupid, but is this VAG re-programming documented somewhere, so that the ignorant (that would be me) can join the all-knowing (that would be all of you with VAG tools)?

I think the base version of the VAG-COM doesn't allow for reporgramming. You need a HEX-COM or HEX-USB. I have a HEX-COM and I reprogrammed my car with the remote window function and the single-push onlock of all doors.
There's no reason not to do the remote window mod, IMO. Closing the windows by remote is the best part of this feature, 'cause it will close the sunroof, too.

CTMechE: Your last sentence reaises another question: I CAN close my '98 2.8 A4 windows and room with my key. Are you saying that I COULD do that with a remote, along with being able to get rid of the double-click entry? Do all of these reprogramming VAG-COM issues refer to 98 model year and on?
