Default Valve cover gasket (hopefully) or piston rings (hopefully not)???

I just changed my plugs and had/have quite the scare. I pulled the first plug and it was drenched in oil. Oh crap. I freaked out and pulled the other 3. They looked fine.

Then I though for a second and realized that the socket also had oil on it, as did the nut on the plug. This said to me that it must have come from above and is not lack of piston rings.

Is this correct? please say yes. pretty please.

I also looked and it does appear that indeed the gasket is leaking as there is oil/residue on the plug hole wall.

Here are the pictures. You decide.

Default Hm...

How old is the valve cover gasket?

You could wait till the engine cools then clean the residual oil... or just replace the valve cover gasket, they are cheap.

Looks like oil in all 4 plug holes, especially 1.
