Default Valve covers leaking after I changed the seals

I changed out my water pump, ribbed belt, timing belt, and valve cover seals. I had oil leaking from the valve covers before the job. Now I have a leak at the rear of the passenger side valve cover that hits the exhaust and smokes. I have larger leak at the front of the driver side valve cover. I looks like I did not do something right with the chain tensioners. What can be messed up with that? I put the sealant where the manual calls for it.

Also, I am getting leaking from the plug that seals the hole for the crankshaft lock. Not sure how I could have done that wrong. This makes me wonder if I am not getting proper crankcase breathing and its getting too pressurized.

Any help would be appreciated.

Default change your pcv hose.... yours is probably shot by now...

Default Hmmm dealer said there was no PCV

I likey you thinking. I went to the dealer to see about a new PCV valve. They said there was no PCV valve! They said the pressure was regulated by the oil fill cap and sold me an updated one.

Where is this tube attached you show in the picture?

Default Your dealer's a complete idiot

The hose runs between the two valve covers and then feeds into a round black PCV valve that then feeds to the throttle body. Hose is made of black plastic, probably very brittle due to age.

Default I think I know where that is

on my 30V there is a similar hose that runs from one valve cover to the other. At least that's what I thought it did. By the picures it must have a T in the middle with a check valve down to the oil pan as a return or something. I will check it when I get home. Thanks!

Default You are not going to believe this - dealer was right!

My car is an 98, but it was built in early 97, I got it July 07. It is a strange mix of model year 97 wiring and 30V new stuff as this was new for 98.

Anyway, my car only has a corregated tube running from one valve cover to the other, no T to another hose. Another dealer confirmed the part show in the posts above will not fit. The only breathing control is in the oil fill cap.

Update on the problem in another post

Default Update - still leaking but better

The leak from the plug that seals the hold for the crankshaft lock is fixed. It was missing an 0-ring, must of dropped off and I did not notice. Put a new one on there and no leak.

I still have the leaks from both valve covers, but they leak even when the oil fill cap is on loosely so it is not driven by crankcase pressure. Something is just wrong in there, I need to pull it apart.
