What's the latest? Is the Synpower as good as the Mobil 1? I've looked through the archives, but wonder if there are any new opinions.
I sure would like to see the 0w40 show up in stores in the Midwest soon.
tnx

Might be easier to locate a Mobil1 distributor in stead of waiting for it to show up in stores...

Most Sythetics perform comparably, but if you want the best . . .
Go for AMSOIL sythetic. They have the most experience with sythetics. Mobil 1 just in the last few years started doing things that AMSOIL has done for nearly two decades.
The main thing is to get running on sythetics ASAP you will notice your oil temperature go down dramatically and watch your engine's oil stay clean for a longer time compared to organic oil, because synthetic does not break down as fast and lubricates far better at a wider range of temperatures.
I run the Valvoline Synpower 20W-50, as I live in So. Cal., have garages at home and work, drive in 90-100 degree weather all summer, rarely run in weather colder than 50 degrees, and get the engine hot with freeway driving. Thus, the 50 weight stuff protects well when I get into the 100+ degree weather, and the 20W works well as I never get into freezing weather, not to mention negative numbers.

Er, don't you want the oil to look dirtier sooner?
It is a result of the detergent action of the oil, holding the combustion byproducts in suspension. Remember the old "non-detergent" oils? They would look clean too, but that was because they left the deposits inside your engine.
Unless of course you are "burning" your oil, but that should not be the case in normally running engines.

just thought I'd do due diligence to Mobil since they did invent synthetic oils.
Something makes me think that they have a bit more experience formulating sythetics than anyone else.
