Default VERY interesting reading over "there" about chips and turbo failures...>

The S4 crowd has come up with some interesting thoughts about chipping and the resultant (or not) turbo failure. It's well worth a read for those of us who are chipped.

Default I agree with some of what he wrote, however,

he is speaking of s4's, not a4's I have a boost gauge and I don't see boost spikes that high. I have not read anything about an a4 with a blown k03 turbo that has an apr chip. If this has happend to you please post your experience.

Default My APR spikes to around 18 or 19psi...I'm also going Bailey soon. I usually sit on my *** when I...

get to where I'm going to let everything cool down. That coupled with maintaining NO boost for a few miles before arrival. I just don't know how people can go without a boost gauge.
Cy...Pearl '97 1.8TQMS, APR: v3.1-exhaust-SS lines, UUC, Neuspeed, H&R Sport, Bilstein, AEZ Bimos, AVS Sports, ATE Powerdisc, R4S, Valvoline SynPower, Mobil 1, Autometer, K&N, Air Box Mod, Aluminum Trim...67.5K and counting.

Default One comment about S4 turbo/chipped post...

He was down a bit on APR because he had heard more stories about problems with APR than other brands. The problem with this is that more people have APR than other chips, so it actually could be that APR has less percentage problems than other chip manufacturers. Gotta figure out your population and go based on percentages to figure out how reliable they really are.

Also note the reply from APR about a few cases of failures.

Default Eh, they're OK. Good value but I sorta trashed them at the Glen a month ago...

They've got pad material built up from the race pads I was using. A buddy suggested using separate pads/rotors for street/track. I'm planning a BIRA Stage 1 or 2 next summer.

But for street use, they're great. They're slotted, so they keep the pads from glazing. And they only cost $55/each. These, coupled with the Porterfield R4S pads make for great(stock size components) stopping. I was very unimpressed with the Mintex Redbox pads when it came time to stop.
Cy...Pearl '97 1.8TQMS, APR: v3.1-exhaust-SS lines, UUC, Neuspeed, H&R Sport, Bilstein, AEZ Bimos, AVS Sports, ATE Powerdisc, R4S, Valvoline SynPower, Mobil 1, Autometer, K&N, Air Box Mod, Aluminum Trim...67.5K and counting.
