Default The throttle stop motor performs this function...

rather than a valve that routes air around the plate it just move the plate itself.

I noted this afternoon that the car is in first gear as I come to the stop. Also, I should have mentioned that the Audi service department read off the faults from the computer and found nothing wrong with the IAC. I specifically asked them that question. They also told me that the unit was sealed and very difficult to treat. He said that if the car stalls, bring it in. Not the most reassuring answer.

Default I have my own VAG tool software and no fault codes were noted with faulty IAC

I'm really not sure how the 1.8T IAC or whatever it is called looks like, but yes the 2.8 IAC is sealed and you don't disassemble it. You just spray injection cleaner and WD40 into the air control pathways of the valve.
