I saw a story on the news last night that front window tint has changed from a fix-it ticket to a straight violation. I have no idea what the fine will be, but be warned that a change may be in the wind.
Now I gotta rethink my tinting plans!

I also saw a news report stating that the CHP is cracking down on front window tinting. If I remember correctly, the fine is in the $80 dollar range, plus the cost of having the tint removed. According to the news report, any tint film on the front windows is illegal.
I was pulled over while sitting in traffic on the 101 for having the front windows of my 4Runner tinted. They were medium tint (35%). Luckily I got out of the ticket and just got a warning, I told the cop that my dad was a cop and he would sign-off the ticket. Luckily he didn't ask too many questions, since my dad isn't really a cop.<p>Nirav

if the cop isn't pulling you over specifically for tint, rolling down the windows will at least not flaunt them and maybe the cop won't notice. Mind you I don't have my front windows tinted so I don't know if this works, but seems like a reasonable precaution to take (might as well, there's no downside to it).
