When I am done washing the car, I spray down the engine with Simple Green, and use the left over soap and a wheel wash mit to clean as much of the engine as I can get. Once dry (after a quick run around the block to burn off all the water), I amor all all the black parts on the engine.
Only thing I cover is the intake. I stuff a rag in the intake opening above the radiator to keep water from going in there. Everything else should be fine and watertight.

Just make sure you follow the instructions.
It can be risky for your finishes if you don't follow the instructions explicitly.
In addition I wet the body of the car around the engine cavity so as to not let any of it land on a dry spot.
The water dilutes the strength and will not remove wax on your painted surface.!
Looks brand new afterward!
