Default Wastegate question, How can I test if the wastegate is functioning properly?

Do I have to remove the turbo? I ask because my k04 is quite laggy below 3500rpm. Any advice on open wastegates or wastegates in general is appreciated.

Default

May be "laggy" due to internal or external leak. Check your BPV

BPV is good. I think I'm just going to unbolt the turbo and inspect it.

Default you "could"...

take a hemostat and clamp the compressor line from the turbo.

this makes the waste gate completely closed.

this is also dangerous to drive around like this, but good enough for a diagnostic.

at part throttle the turbo should kick in like a raped ape. as long as you drive at 1/4 throttle -you will be fine.

I would not suggest WOT.

if your wastegate is closed, you'll get the raped ape at part throttle. this means your lag problem isnt the turbo.

other things to do first:
-clean the TB and do a TBA
-check for boost leaks, check PCV valve under the intake manifold
-vag block 032
-log 3rd gear WOT block 115
-check the N75
-cat clogged?

Default excellent suggestions. I'll try the raped ape method first.

Although, what if i just unplug the n75 valve? would that work the same way?

Default nah, thats going to throw extra codes and i dont know if the N75 is NO or NC.

i suspect its NO, (normally open)

like i said, be very careful, and take it easy.
