wastegate rod

I can't hear my turbo and the car is very sluggish. Could this be caused by a broken wastegate rod. How can I check to see if it is broken?

Not too common a failure on the 99's .. You can check the wastegate by hooking a hand pump up to the

actuator nipple and seeing if it moves when you pump.

Thanks. I have a perfectly good turbo in my leased 2000 passat that goes back in 9 days...pretty tempting...
