I'm half way through a timing belt, water pump, thermostat, headlight washer pump replacement job.
Do I need to put gasket sealer on the water punp gasket. Do I need to scrape off the existing seal on the engine block? It's a black sealant that looks tight and like it might enhance the new seal, or at least not interfere with it.
If it matters this is on the 1.8T.
TIA!

if you do use any sealer use just enough so that you get very little "overage". HTH
