It sound like a soft whine. I have no clue what it is. It can only be heard the first minute or so during start-up. It's coming from underneath the engine somewhere, but can be heard while inside w/ the door open. I still haven't narrowed it down to exact location. I have another 10k before the t-belt job...maybe the water pump, tensioner, or some other pulley on it's way out early? Hmmm...I've heard that throw away bearings in the clutch make this kind of noise, could be that.
In the sound file, the noise at fault is the one that goes away towards the end.

If you need the codec for the file (canon's AVI), you can get it here:

of a short broomstick or some such thing against your ear and the other end on the suspect component, you'll know if the bearings are going. it's like a stethoscope.

but it sounds like it's coming from between the bumper and the engine...kind of like where the water pump and the tensioner are. I don't know how I'd get there w/ a broomstick ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'll give it a try though, thanks for the idea.

I'm not sure if it's a ticking sound...it sounds more like it's whining. It also goes away after a few seconds. Any way to check the pump w/o removing the bumper and the radiator?

It could be anything. A whine can indicate a belt that's too tight.. Or a bearing could need a few minutes to loosen up.. Keep an eye (ear) on it, if it gets worse, get someone to give the front of the engine a good close look.

"get someone to give the front of the engine a good close look"???...C'mon Kris, don't you know me. I'll try to pinpoint it, but it's hard since the sound goes away after a few seconds, and doesn't come back until the car is restarted after sitting for a while.
