Weird noise from back wheel (semi-long)

I brought my 01 1.8T QTP in to Rockville Porsche/Audi yesterday for them to diagnose a noise coming from one of the rear wheels on my car. To describe the sound, it sounds like something is rubbing against a rotor inside the wheel, the noise speeds up as the speed of the car increases. So it definitely sounds like something is rubbing on one part of the wheel and everytime that part rotates around, it makes a noise. The noise only starts after about 5 minutes of driving, not usually before the wheels are warm. The guys at the dealership were not able to diagnose the problem, they "lubricated my brake pads" but they didn't see anything else out of the ordinary. The noise does not affect performance, but is just plain annoying.
Has anyone here had the same problem? Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks...

I have listened to it a ton and to me, it doesn't seem to get louder as speed increases...the sound will start after the car has been driven for about 5 minutes, and then it will be the same volume, but time interval will vary according to speed.

I agree with GraigB that it is a wheel bearing going bad. I just had one replaced in the rear but it was an accident ramenant that started several months later.
If in fact it is a wheel bearing it will get louder and louder as you put more miles on without fixing it.
By the way I also bought my A4 from Rockville Audi.

A cylider with little ***** in side that go round allowing the wheel to spin. If one of these gets dented or malformed it will begin to wear wrong and get louder and louder

Thanks, am on the phone with the service dept. now, i actually bought the car at Len Stoler in Owings Mills. They are saying that they are going to replace the rotors and pads, but I am going to tell them to replace all wheel bearings as well. Does that sound like a good plan of action?
