Default weird sound from startup.......

a noise comes up whenever the engine is cool and i try to start it..... clattering ....sounds like "dah-dah-dah-dah-dah" and it sometimes disappear once i step on gas............. i suspected the sound was from timing belt ... but mechanists said no (i've been asking different ppl on this for long ).....i tried to spray some W40 on the timing belt and pully ... didn't work .... did anyone have the same problem ?

Default DON'T SPRAY WD40 ON BELTS!!!!!!!!

would help to know what year and engine your car was.

if it's a 2001 1.8T, it could be the timing belt tensioner or cam tensioner.

Try taking a dry bar of soap and as the belt is turning, let the soap rub on the belt.

Default It's quiet a squeaking belt that has too much deflection.

Won't save you from oil or other crud that is making it squeak.

Default If it clatters, I'd look at the tensioner pullys and the aux fan bearings. Does the clatter lessen

or go away if you switch of the AC?
