Well, got my first speeding ticket this morning.
Was driving 40 in a 35 and got pulled over. I was kinda pissed that I got pulled for going 5 over the limit, then the cop told me it was a school zone with a speed limit of 25. Best part is that it was 7:35 when I got clocked, the school zone started at 7:30. So I'm in a town I'm not used to and get caught speeding 5 minutes into a school zone time period. Great luck huh? Well, the cop sited me for "exceeding the limit in a 25mph zone." Also, she didnt put down the fine, does that make it free? Could this just get thrown out because it's my first ticket ever? Anyone have any tips. Thanks!

Penalties for speeding in a school zone vary from state to state. Some have mandatory fines (up to $2000), others have jail sentences (in Arkansas, failing to observe a school speed zone can attract a 1- to 10-day jail term for a first offence, in Michigan the maximum penalty is 90 days!), others double the normal fines. Damn, crappy luck these past few days!
Show up early and talk with the D.A. They'll likely drop the charge to something very small. Call me or come by if you'd like to talk about it. It'll work out fine, especially since this is your first speeding ticket.
