Default Wet Brake problem recall!!

I just got this message forwarded to me from my dad (who got it on Vettenet):

"An estimated 105,000 Audi A4 sedans are affected by possible reduced or delayed braking activation when the brakes are wet, the agency said. NHTSA received 32 complaints and one report of a crash, but no resulting injuries."

I am having difficulty finding it on the NHTSA site, but he is going to get info from the person who posted the info and I'll post more info as I get it.

Default Not a recall, but an investigation that AoA is aware of...

It came across the wire services today. Here is the entire release sent out. The A4 info is at the end:

GM, Ford recall more than 400,000 cars and trucks
By Ben Klayman

DETROIT, May 19 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. GM and Ford Motor Co have recalled more than 400,000 cars and light trucks in the United States relating to potential fuel tank, seat belt and windshield wiper problems, federal safety regulators said on Friday.

GM, the world's largest automaker, also had a probe about steering control loss in 677,000 cars and trucks upgraded to an engineering analysis from a preliminary evaluation, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in its latest monthly defect report.

Probes also were upgraded or opened into vehicles made by Ford, DaimlerChrysler AG X.N and
Volkswagen AG. After NHTSA upgrades to an engineering analysis, it can ask a carmaker to recall all or some of the vehicles in question or drop the analysis without making a finding.

GM said it has recalled 118,682 1996- and 1997-model Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans because fuel tank valves that prevent fuel leaks during a rollover accident may stick open, raising the chance of a fire.

The Detroit-based automaker also is recalling 78,527 Chevrolet Corvette sports cars from model years 1997 to 2000 for potential problem with the front lap belt that may lead to twisting and make the belt unusable.

GM spokesman Greg Martin said there have been no injuries or accidents reported in either recall and owners in both cases are being notified now.

Ford, the world's No. 2 automaker, said it is recalling about 212,000 1999- and 2000-model Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer sport utility vehicles to repair windshield wipers that may fail, reducing driver visibility in bad weather. Ford spokesman Mike Vaughn said no accidents or injuries have been reported and owner notification is underway.

Ford also is telling owners of 693,065 1999- and 2000-model Explorer, Mountaineer, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator SUVs, Ford Ranger compact pickups and Mercury Villager minivans about a potential problem with windshield wipers that may activate themselves without warning, Vaughn said.

The action is not a recall, but owners are being told they can have the switch replaced at Ford dealers, he said.

NHTSA said it upgraded a probe into 677,000 Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo, Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Pontiac Grand Prix sedans, and Lumina APV, Silhouette and Trans Sport minivans for possible failure of some front bolts in the engine cradle that can cause complete loss of steering control.

NHTSA and GM have received 200 complaints and reports of 32 crashes and 11 injuries relating to the alleged problem, the safety agency said. GM conducted a recall for a similar problem relating to the engine cradle's rear bolts in 1997.

GM said it is cooperating in the probe.

NHTSA also upgraded a probe into almost 1.3 million 1991- to 1994-model Explorer SUVs for possible spare tire winch cable failure. The agency and carmaker have received 106 complaints and reports of one crash relating to the alleged problem.

Ford said it is cooperating in the probe.

NHTSA also opened a preliminary evaluation into an estimated 1.7 million GM trucks -- the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Yukon SUVs, and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks -- for alleged headlight failure. The agency has received 10 complaints, but no reports of injuries or accidents.

Similar probes were opened into DaimlerChrysler's 2000 Jeep Wrangler for possible air bag module detachment and VW's Audi A4 sedan for possible degraded braking in wet weather conditions, NHTSA said. Both carmakers are cooperating.

An undetermined number of Wrangler SUVs are affected by one complaint NHTSA received about an air bag module that was not mounted properly and fell off the steering wheel.

An estimated 105,000 Audi A4 sedans are affected by possible reduced or delayed braking activation when the brakes are wet, the agency said. NHTSA
received 32 complaints and one report of a crash, but no resulting injuries.
