Has anyone in Seattle experienced the wet braking problem? I'll be taking my delivery hopefull w/in two weeks, and am a little concerned about our typical NW weather.
Also, do the 2001 A4's have the same wet braking problem, or is that something that they pulled their heads out of their butts for and fixed?
Thanks!

I have had a 2001 for about a month here in the NE. It has rained a lot in the past two weeks. I have not had in out in really heavy rain, but I have had no sign of wet braking yet. But from what I understand, that doesn't mean its cured for all 2001s.

It's been raining for a week now, and have had no sign of wet braking problems. I had the problem with my '98 Passat(stock), but nothing with '00 A4(stock). I don't know if it's the shield, or the wheel design, but if you are in New England and you didn't have the problem during the past week, I doubt you will even have it! ;P

I have a '00 1.8 and didn't have any problems till I took a long, wet, drive up to Canada. When I was on the freeway for an extended time I hit the brakes and suddenly found it un-responsive for about 1-2 seconds. That would have been driving for possibly over an hour without having touched the brakes which is something that should be done right?(I think the manual says something about this...tapping brakes occasionaly). Previous cars have never had this problem, but to be fair...the conditions weren't the same. Around Seattle tho, I have NEVER come across this problem. Hope this helps you out =)

Thanks- that's helpful! I guess it doesn't hurt to 'dry' the brakes off occassionally while you're driving. Just with all the rain we get here, I was feeling the need to be reassured!

I've driven in horrendous buckets of rain w/ standing water etc on the NJ Turnpike and NY Thruway not to mention side roads etc with nary a problem.
I've got stock wheels and tires. Someone months ago indicated that the problem may be related to aftermarket wheels, except that in grand scheme of Audi owners not that many have aftermarket wheels. So it seems unlikely, but has anyone know more about that?

In fairness to Audi, I had this problem occasionally with my 94 Saab 900SE. It tended to happen when the car sat out in very wet conditions for several hours. A few taps of the brake while underway usually cured it.

I've had the problem for a year. Dealer installed a kit and problem solved. They replaced the front inner brake shields with a new set of shields. With the constant rain in the Boston area for a couple of weeks, I've had plenty of testing time and the fix worked great for me.
99 Avant 1.8TQMS
