Default 150HP and 180HP engine differences

After reading the article I have the impression that not much was done to the 180HP engine other than intake ports, ECU and drive by wire. The journalist seems to have lumped the many engine changes into a broad statement that covers both engines, but the major changes were done to the 225HP version. The article also switches back and forth from engine to engine and this gives the impression that some changes are on both engines when they are not. Read it again (carefully) and see. Even the turbo in the 180HP engine is reported to be the same as the 150HP engine - the K03 (you have to dig to find this tid-bit).

Default Re:Differences between TT and A4 Engines

Brad,
True, it is very interesting how different people read things differently. To quote the article and you, "<snip> from the turbocharger and the intake manifold to the engine-management control unit." Looking at it your way, makes me think the 180hp is getting a new turbo, ie. not a KKK Type K03 but something else. If you did go on to quote further, "Thus it was possible to increase power output for the two TT models from 112 kW (150 hp) to 132 kW (180 hp) and 165 kW (225 hp).", it makes it pretty clear that it was a blanket statement for both the 180hp and the 225hp. I think it is very clear the 225hp gets MANY changes, for example a turbo, but I also think it is very clear the 180hp doesn't gets as many changes, ie a new turbo.
Default Audi shipped the 1.8T with less power so that it wouldn't compete with the 2.8! If...

...the 1.8T were putting out 180 HP, and the 2.8 190, then they wouldn't sell many 2.8's at a premium, would they? The turbo on the 1.8's have been known to cause a few people problems, but it doesn't matter whether or not the car is chipped. TIt is a turbo problem. Also, the hoses are a little weak, but can easily be upgraded.
Charles
