Hi, I am preparing to sell my 1998 A4 Avant and wanted to know what is considered normal oil use? I seem to have to put in a quart every other gas fill-up (about 500 miles).
I don't see white smoke and I don't see any oil drops in my driveway. I don't want to misrepresent my car when I sell, and I'm unsure whether that is normal. The car has 107K and the timing belt/oil seals/gaskets were replaced at 100K. Thanks!

burning oil isn't white, but its gotta be going somewhere. Either on the ground or out the tailpipe. You most likely don't see it on the driveway cause it blows it out when you drive.
Have you visually checked the engine for signs of oil leaks?

Thanks for all the replies...guess I have a problem. I really didn't want to put more money in it, but looks like I'll have to. I'll ask about the suction jet valve. One other thing I thought of...on a really cold day, when the heat comes on after a few minutes there is a burning oil smell for a few seconds coming through the vents. Another clue to a cause?
