Default What is the B5 forum's consensus on the B7?

I haven't been a big fan of Audis since they put DBW on the A4 in 2001, because I can't stand the DBW delay. My mom has a 2002 B6 A4 and the delay drives me nutz. So I have just about written off the idea of a newer Audi.

Yesterday I went to my local dealership and test drove a 2006 2.0T with manual transmission. The manual tranny certainly helps to alleviate most of the DBW delay. The steering, clutch, and shifter were all significantly lighter than my B5. But all-in-all I liked the car.
I have been saying that I am getting tired of 4-cyl engines and would really like a 6-cyl for my next car -- and have been shopping for a CPO E46 330xi. I also considered the B6 A4 3.0. But I'm wondering if I should ante up for a B7 instead. I can't spring for a 3.2, even used. But the 2.0T certainly fits my price range. And it would allow me to get a newer car than if I got either the B6 3.0 or B7 3.2 or a 330xi. I'd probably chip it, but don't want to do all the mods I've done to my B5. I'm through with that.

Staying with Audi will also allow me to keep the use of my VAG-COM, and I already have a set of winter wheels which I would use with a newer car. Whereas if I got a BMW, I'd have to get a newer set of wheels.

Also, does anybody know if my Neuspeed short shifter would work with the B7 6-speed? (The factory shifter is not bad -- certainly better than the B5 factory shifter. But I just love my Neuspeed shifter.)

Since we here on the B5 forum are the purists of AW, I thought I'd ask here first.

THanks!

Default If possible I'd consider waiting for the B8

B7 = B6 experiencing an identity crisis with some newer engines... besides the next 2.0T should be chain driven... no more timing belts, only the water pump is driven from a toothed belt.... not sure how exactly but thats what I've seen. OH and if you haven't go poke around the s5... that is a good indicator for what the A4 will be like when it goes on sale here.

Default Long term plan...

I cannot really justify spending the money on a new car. So as much as I really like the B8, or an E90 328xi, I would rather wait a few years and get either of those cars as a 3 year old CPO model.

So I am thinking of a 2-4 year old car NOW, and then in another 3-4 years, one of the aforementioned cars. I agree that the B8 looks like a real winner, and would be a strong contender in a few years. I don't need to drive a brand new car. Nor can I afford it. But I'd rather get a 3 year old CPO Audi or BMW than a newer lesser car.

Thanks!

Default Chip it to 250 and you should be happy, Peter

I still dislike the DBW system even in the B7's

I do dislike the luxe over sport direction as well.

I'm looking at an e36 M3 but the guy wants 19k for a 1999 Book is 12.

Sadly, some local will buy it for their 16 yo....

Default I owned a Stage III A4 and have had two B7's for the past 3 years

The 2.0T is significantly better than the 1.8 in terms of power delivery, with the turbo reaching full power at 1800RPMS its fun in the corners.

Stock sport suspension is well balanced, comfortable yet stiff enough for spirited driving.

Having said that I'm looking for another B5 to build up.

Default Makes sense to me.

I don't want a new car badly enough to take the hit on the depreciation... nor do I really need to spend that much money just so I can say... "its new" a fleeting sentiment after just few months. Given my resources and experience I can get along very well with a 2nd hand car and keep my monies for other expenses.

Default well, if you want a hooked-up B6, Chip Herr is selling his personal car. I saw it yesterday. Alcons

STaSIS Motorsports, 19" SSR wheels (which he might keep), APR chip, etc. etc.

sticker said $29,900 with the SSRs. $28,900 without.

I can't believe no one picked it up yet. such low miles, you know it's been in good hands, and great mods.

It's at his Dad's lot in Lititz, PA -- Warwick Autopark.

http://www.warwickautopark.com/details.asp?CarID=5541025&d=1181011&s=B086 34</a
