Default What is the best air filter for B5 1.8T?

Hi everyone,

I have a '98 A4 1.8T quattro, that is all stock. I've had the car for two years and have not replaced the air filter yet. I was thinking about getting a cone filter, but from searching around the forum it seems that the general consensus is that it is worse because it sucks hot air.

I would like to ask what filter should I get? If cone filters are bad, then should I get a flat K&N or from the dealer or something else?

I would like to improve airflow if possible, while at it. For example if there is a mod for the airbox that yields good results.

I did search the forums, but other than saying that cone filters are bad there are no specific suggestions what filter to get when it needs to be replaced.

So just to help me figure out what you consider good quality... I checked the local auto parts stores and the more expensive (hopefully good quality) filters are Wix and ACDelco. Is that what you meant?
