is custom exhaust, let's say 3" mandrel bent pipe from the turbo all the way back to a remus universal muffler, or...neuspeed's stainless catback including downpipe. 98 1.8tqm.

Default Well no resonator will mean the first choice will be louder...

and you will need to find a shop that can do custom work. While bending midpipe is no biggie, can they fab a downpipe? Luckily SPP sells Pictureboy's DP for ~250. SO get that 250 DP, get the Remus rear muffler, then have a shop mandrel bend you a mid-pipe.

The above is actually what i would like to do...You could always source, in addition, a resonator for the mid-pipe, a good exhaust shop can make you one, a midpipe with a resonator welded in.

The plus of a ready made exhaust is...it's ready made! No guesswork, any slack jawed yokel can remove your old exhaust and put the new one on.

Not too sure about a 3" exhaust with a KO4, you will lose low end power in exchange for more top end power...i think that a 2.5" exhaust flows sufficiently for a KO4, if i had to guess.

Cheers,
Sameer

when you find a 3" turbo-back mandrel-bent system be sure and order two and I'll take the other one.

Default but a shop could mandrel bend for him, right?

Im assuming he finds a place that does custom exhaust work for muscle cars, etc...

Default any shop with a $700,000+ CAD/CAM mandrel machine... sure. Not a local shop with its tube-bender

My kindom for a muffler shop in Denver with a mandrel machine!! Or anyone in town.

Default Hmm wonder if Magnaflow will do one, have you seen their hot rod universal kits?

just a whole mess of bent tubes, etc...for fitment in what are essentially custom applications. Not their cat-back systems, but the large kits they sell for custom rods.

Didn't realize a mandrel machine would cost that much though.

Cheers,
Sameer

Default Borla and a lot of other exhaust companies offer mandrel bent tubing in various....

bends and diameters. They're available in 45, 90 and 180 degree bends and are cut/welded to fit over, under, around and through obstacles on their way out from under the car. How you think we made smooth-bend exhausts before mandrels were commonly available? Very labor intensive but a good cut/weld man could turn out some incredibly nice exhausts. They were artists in their day.

BTW $700k would be a cheap buy-in on a small, used mandrel machine. New state-of-the-art can easily run well in excess of $1.5M depending on tooling and options.

is there a possibility that a custom shop could bunk up the job, causing me to lose performance?

Default You might want to give autosport werks a call.

I don't know that they have one but it wouldn't really surprise me. They seem to have a bunch of cool toys (ie, 4 wheel dyno).
