What is the correlation between tire width (205,215,225, etc) and wheel width (7.0, 7.5, 8.0, etc)..

also, if a tire is larger in diameter, but the same in width, will there be any handling advantages? TIA

The spec sheets on most tire company web sites show the approved range of wheel width, and the "design" width, for every tire they sell.
There's a small handling disadvantage going to a larger diameter tire with the same tread width; there's more sidewall to flex, which is less of a direct connection between the steering wheel and the road. Also, it has the same efffect of a taller gear, less acceleration.
